First Aid
First Aid Kits, AEDs & Workplace First Aid Supplies
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.151(a) requires that employers ensure the ready availability of medical personnel for advice and consultation on matters of employee health, and that adequate first aid supplies be readily available where there is no infirmary, clinic, or hospital near the workplace. In practice, this means a stocked, compliant first aid kit within each work area and trained personnel who know how to use it. The current standard for first aid kit contents is ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2021, which defines Class A (basic) and Class B (extended) kit contents for general and high-risk workplaces respectively.
Safe-Fast carries a complete range of workplace first aid products across five subcategories, primarily from First Aid Only, Zoll, and CoreTex:
- Kits — ANSI 2021-compliant first aid kits and metal cabinets from First Aid Only:
- 25 Person First Aid Kit ANSI Class A — portable plastic case for offices, vehicles, and small worksites ($34.31)
- 50 Person Contractor Kit ANSI B+ — designed for construction sites; exceeds ANSI 2021 Class B ($106.88)
- 100 Person 3-Shelf Metal Cabinet ANSI B+ — wall-mountable steel cabinet with Type I & II medications for industrial and manufacturing settings ($254.25)
- 200 Person 5-Shelf Metal Cabinet ANSI B — solid steel 5-shelf cabinet for large facilities; exceeds 2021 ANSI Class B requirements ($415.00)
- Defibrillators (AEDs) — the Zoll AED Plus provides Real CPR Help® with real-time feedback on the rate and depth of chest compressions, giving bystander responders the guidance to deliver effective CPR. The Philips HeartStart FRx AED is also available for facilities requiring a rugged, portable device rated for shock and water resistance.
- Medicinals — refillable consumables including burn gel packets (6–25 pack), 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes (10–50 pack), waterproof first aid tape (1/2" and 1" × 10 yd), and other individual first aid consumables for kit restocking or standalone use.
- Outdoor Protection — products for workers in outdoor environments: BugX 30 DEET insect repellent spray and towelettes (CoreTex); Blast 'Em bee & wasp killer (Aervoe); and sunscreen products for crews working in direct sunlight.
- Refills — individual refill components and refill packs compatible with First Aid Only kit models. OSHA requires first aid kits to be adequately stocked — expired or depleted supplies must be replenished promptly.
For biohazard response, the 24-piece Body Fluid Pick-Up Kit provides full head-to-toe protection for biohazard cleanup. For bulk kit orders or facility-wide first aid compliance programs, call Safe-Fast at 1-800-723-3620.

First Aid Kits & Supplies — Frequently Asked Questions
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.151 requires that employers ensure the ready availability of medical personnel for employee health matters, and that first aid supplies approved by a consulting physician be readily available at each worksite where there is no infirmary, clinic, or hospital in near proximity.
OSHA references ANSI/ISEA Z308.1 as guidance on minimum first aid kit contents. The 2021 revision defines two classes: Class A for basic hazard environments (small offices, retail, light manufacturing) and Class B for extended hazard environments (construction, industrial, manufacturing). Kits must be inspected regularly, and depleted or expired items must be replaced promptly.
Under ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2021:
- Class A kits are designed to address the most common types of workplace injuries — minor cuts, abrasions, burns, and sprains. They contain a basic assortment of bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, burn treatment, and a few other items. Suitable for low-hazard workplaces: offices, retail, light assembly environments. The 25 Person First Aid Kit meets Class A.
- Class B kits contain a broader and larger supply of items, including tourniquets, trauma dressings, and more substantial wound care materials, designed for higher-risk workplaces — construction, manufacturing, utilities, and industrial plants. The 50 Person Contractor Kit and 100 Person Cabinet meet Class B+ requirements.
Kit size should be matched to the number of employees in the work area and the risk level of the work. General guidance:
- Up to 25 workers, low-hazard: 25 Person ANSI A kit — suitable for offices, small shops, and vehicles.
- Up to 50 workers, construction/industrial: 50 Person Contractor ANSI B+ kit
- Up to 100 workers, industrial/manufacturing: 100 Person 3-Shelf Metal Cabinet ANSI B+
- Up to 200 workers, large facility: 200 Person 5-Shelf Metal Cabinet ANSI B
For multi-building facilities, each work area should have its own kit or cabinet accessible within a reasonable travel distance. Consult OSHA 1910.151 and your facility's occupational health consultant for formal guidance.
OSHA does not currently mandate AEDs in most general industry workplaces at the federal level. However, many states have AED requirement laws for specific settings (schools, fitness facilities, large public gatherings), and OSHA's General Duty Clause (Section 5(a)(1)) can apply if an employer knows that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a recognized hazard and fails to take feasible abatement steps.
The American Heart Association recommends that AEDs be available within a 3–5 minute response time in any setting where workers may be present. The Zoll AED Plus is designed for use by untrained bystanders and provides real-time CPR coaching — 10 compressions per minute guidance and depth feedback — making it one of the most effective workplace AEDs available. Always consult applicable state and local law.
OSHA requires that first aid kits be maintained in a sanitary condition and that supplies be adequate for the work being performed. Best practice, aligned with ANSI Z308.1, is:
- Monthly visual inspection — verify all required items are present, in adequate quantity, and within expiration dates.
- Restock after every use — depleted items should be replaced immediately following any first aid event.
- Annual review — confirm the kit class still matches the current worker population and hazard profile of the work area.
Safe-Fast stocks First Aid Only refill packs and individual refill components compatible with all First Aid Only kit models in this category.
